The Lubavitcher Rebbe

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known simply as “the Rebbe,” was one of the most influential Jewish leaders of the twentieth century. Born in 1902 in Nikolaev, Ukraine, he was a brilliant Torah scholar who also studied mathematics and engineering in Berlin and Paris. After escaping Nazi-occupied France, he arrived in New York in 1941, and in 1950 assumed leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.

From his headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, the Rebbe sent thousands of emissaries, known as shluchim, to build Jewish life in communities around the world. He encouraged every Jew to do one more mitzvah, believing that a little bit of light dispels a lot of darkness.

In 1994 the Rebbe was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his “outstanding and lasting contributions toward improvements in world education, morality, and acts of charity.”

The Rebbe inspires every Jew to make an impact on the people around them, thereby transforming the world to a better place. With this inspiration, we are dedicated to serving the Jewish community of Clarence and its surroundings.
